8 States for Maz

Officer Anthony “Maz” Mazurkiewicz of the Rochester Police Department was murdered in the line of duty on July 21^st, 2022. At the time of his death, he was assigned to the elite Tactical Unit that has the number designator of “8”. Maz is survived by his wife Lynn, 4 children, 3 grandchildren, his parents, a sister and brother. He served 29 years with the RPD and was looking forward to his retirement.

Starting on April 23^rd, Sgt. Brett Sobieraski (Ret.) will begin running a marathon (26.2 miles) a day, EVERY DAY, starting in Florida through 8 states finishing at the Fallen Officer Memorial in Rochester, NY on June 11^th. A total distance of 1258 miles will be run. The mission of “8 States for Maz” is to honor Maz’s sacrifice and raise money for his family. All donations will be turned over to the Mazurkiewicz family.

IMPORTANT- In addition to donations, we need your attendance at the finish on June 11^th, 1:00pm at the Halls of Justice courtyard, 99 Exchange Blvd. The Mazurkiewicz family will be attending so kindly put that in your calendar now. You can also sign up at www.fleetfeet.com/s/rochester/ to run the last 3 miles with Sgt. Sobieraski at a very casual pace. This is open to everyone so please bring family and friends.

Our duty is to remember the sacrifices of the fallen and show them, and their families, that we are forever grateful.
