our history

The Rochester Police Department (RPD) was established in 1817 following the founding of Rochesterville by Colonel Nathaniel Rochester. The department's origins began with the appointment of a constable and the formation of a night watch. By 1819, the village had raised funds to maintain this night watch, marking the official beginning of the police force.
